㈜씨토포스(대표 최신현)가 설계한 서서울호수공원이 미국조경가협회(ASLA)가 시상하는 세계 최고권위의 ASLA Professional Awards에 선정되면서, 한국 조경계에 또 하나의 쾌거를 일구어 냈다.

 

ASLA Award는 미국조경가협회에서 주관하여 전 세계의 조경작품 및 연구 프로젝트 중 우수한 작품을 학생부분(Student Awards), 전문가부문(Professional Awards), 사회봉사부문(Community Service Award) 등으로 나누어 시상하고 있다.

 

특히 Professional Awards는 해마다 1000여개 작품이 출품하고, 단 10개 작품만 수상의 영예를 얻기 때문에, 상이 갖는 권위도 특별하다.

 

그동안 대한민국 조경은 ASLA Awards와 ‘선유도공원(2004),’‘청계케널프로젝트(2009)’의 수상으로 인연을 맺어왔다. 두 프로젝트 모두 조경에서 설계총괄을 맡아 진행했다는 점과 ‘㈜조경설계 서안(대표 정영선)’이 중심이 되었다는 공통분모가 있다.

 

 

서서울호수공원은 두 작품에 이어 대한민국에서 세 번째로 수상하게 되었다. 특히 ASLA Award의 까다로운 심사요건 속에서, 단 한차례의 도전(제출)만으로 수상의 쾌거를 거두었기 때문에, 작품의 창의성과 완성도 측면에서 높게 평가를 받은 것으로 분석해 볼 수 있다.

 

㈜씨토포스의 최신현 대표는 “이미 ASLA 수상을 하였던 분들의 자문을 거쳐 사진 한컷한컷에 신중을 기해 최종작품 계획서를 제출하였다. 이번 기회를 통해 다양한 정보로 자문해주신 모든 분께 깊이 감사드리며, 무엇보다 한국 조경을 알릴 수 있는 기회가 되어 무척 기쁘게 생각한다”고 선정소감을 밝혔다.

 

한편 (주)씨토포스는 2011년 11월 2일 수요일 미국 캘리포니아주 샌디에이고  컨벤션센터(San Diego Convention Center)에서 개최되는 ‘ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO’에서 서울시와 함께 공동수상을 하게된다.
