16번째 주빌리 정원 축제(Garden Jubilee Festival)가 블루릿지산(Blue Ridge Mountains)의 봄을 축하하며 5월 24일부터 25일까지 미국 노스캐롤라이나주(North Carolina)의 역사적인 도심인 헨더슨빌(Hendersonville)에서 열린다. 100개 이상의 거리 판매상들이 외부공간의 활력을 더해주며, 수공예 미술품과 공예품, 식물과 기타 물건들을 판매하게 된다.

지역과 인근 지방의 식물판매상은 다양한 1년생, 다년생 식물들과 채소, 허브 그리고 희귀한 식물들을 판매한다. 또한 어떠한 사람이라도 만족시킬 수 있는 다양한 음식들도 등장할 예정이다. 거리 판매상들은 헨더슨빌의 6번가에서 2번가에 이르는 넓은 인도에 위치하게 되며, 메인 스트리트는 2번가부터 캐스웰(Caswell)가까지 교통이 통제되어 거리 판매인들이 양쪽으로 자리하게 된다.

지난번에 이어 다시 참여하는 Southern Living Magazine의 조경 및 정원 전문가인 빌 슬랙이 관심을 끈다. 그는 방문객 인포메이션 센터에 있는 Lowe의 잔디 및 정원 텐트에서 세 번의 강연을 진행하게 된다. 서던 리빙 잡지의 정원 대변인으로서 그는 전국적인 텔레비전과 라디오 방송에서 모습을 드러낸 바 있으며, 미국조경가협회(ASLA)에서 제정하는 미국의 우수한 분야개척 조경가(the Outstanding Extension Landscape Architect in the United States)에 선정되기도 했다. 그는 이번 강연동안 정원과 잔디에 대한 다양한 정보와 도움이 되는 간략한 팁을 전해줄 예정이다.

방문객 인포메이션센터에 위치한 Lowe’s Expo에서는 정원 클리닉, 식물들, 어린이 참여 활동과 아름다운 전시를 선보인다. 전국적으로 알려진 잔디와 정원관리 전문가들이 조언을 해줄 예정이며, 어린이 참여는 4살에서 12살까지의 어린이를 대상으로 실시된다.

Garden Jubilee Festival begins Saturday

The 16th annual Garden Jubilee Festival, celebrating the growing season in the Blue Ridge Mountains, will be held during the Memorial Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 24, in Historic Downtown Hendersonville. It offers more than 100 vendors selling handmade arts and crafts, plants and items to enhance outdoor living areas.

Local and regional nurseries will sell many varieties of annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs and hard to find plants on every block of the festival. There will also be delicious food to satisfy any appetite. Vendors will be located on the wide sidewalks of Historic Downtown Hendersonville from Sixth Avenue to Second Avenue. Main Street will be closed to traffic from Second Avenue to Caswell Street, with vendors lining both sides of the street. Bring a wagon or cart to make transporting plants easier.

Back by popular demand is Southern Living Magazine’s landscape and garden specialist Bill Slack. He will be giving clinics in the Lowe’s lawn and garden tent located at the Visitors Information Center. Slack will offer three talks on Saturday:

As gardening spokesman for Southern Living, Slack has made dozens of appearances on television and radio programs nationwide. He was named the Outstanding Extension Landscape Architect in the United States by the American Society of Landscape Architects. In between the talks, product representatives from Stay Green, Spectracide, Pennington Lawn and Garden Products and Old Castle will give informative talks and helpful tips.

Located at the Visitors Information Center, 201 S. Main St., the Lowe’s Expo will offer garden clinics, plants, a hands-on kids clinic and beautiful displays. Nationally known lawn and garden product specialists will give one-on-one-advice. The Lowe’s Kids Clinic will offer fun, hands-on projects for children ages 4 to 12.

Leave pets comfortably at home. Hendersonville City ordinance prohibits animals.
