영국조경협회(Landscape Institute 이하 LI)는 지난 14일(금) 매년 조경 최고 전문가를 축하하는 'LI 어워드' 대상자를 발표했다. 제출된 작품 수는 2006년 이후로 가장 많았다.
올해는 공공 건강, 그린 인프라, 지속가능성에 초점을 맞춘 작품이 후보자 리스트에 올라갔다.
선정작들은 조경으로 대중들의 건강을 향상시키는 것을 가장 중요하게 생각한다. 후보지 중에는 환자와 직원의 스트레스를 감소시켜 주도록 실내에 자연을 들여온 병원도 포함돼 있다.
그린인프라는 생물다양성을 향상시키고, 기후 변화와 물관리에 있어 중요한 수단이 된다. 프로젝트 중에는 런던에 위치한 세 가지 주택 지구를 측정해 기후 변화 개선 방안이 포함돼 있다. 또한, 다른 프로젝트 중에는 남동 웨일즈에서 꿀벌과 다른 수분 매개체를 장려하는 그린 인프라가 특징적이다.
후보 프로젝트들은 11월 2일부터 크리스마스까지 런던 내 빌딩 센터, 상점 거리에 전시될 예정이다.
메릭 덴튼-톰슨 (Merrick Denton-Thompson) 조경협회 회장은 "조경은 혁신가·근로자·행동가를 위한 장소에서 기본적인 고려 사항이다. 디자이너들은 과학적이고 기술적으로 엄격히 뒷받침되는 비전을 요구한다."고 말했다.
아울러 "올해 후보자들은 어느때보다도 조경가들에게 혁신적인 장소, 야생 서식지와 지속가능한 인프라를 만들어내는 방법을 강조한다."고 말했다.
한편, 'LI 어워드' 시상식은 오는 11월 24일(목) 영국 런던 The Brewery, 52Chiswell St, London EC1Y 4SD에서 개최된다.
