| Flowering, fruiting and seed maturation of Vigna unguiculata a leguminous selfing annual com-mon in Korea, were studied in the greenhouse to know the regulation of fruit and seed production. I grew them in two treatment conditions, control and stressed, stress being decreased its available light to 10 % of ambient. I then assessed floral biomass allocation, number of flowers and fruits, number of flower and fruit abortions and seed maturation. Effects of time during the flowering season were also considered. There are several changes of correlations when those of the two treatment populations were compared with. Both the effects of time and treatment were significant in almost all reproductive characters. And stress alone decreased the biomass of sepal of the late-season flowers and the number of seeds . per fruit of V. unguiculata In addition to time and treatment, ovule position was another significant factor on the variations of the probabilities of seed maturation. These data of the overproductions of flowers, considerable abortions of flowers, fruits and seeds, and the nonrandorn maturation of seeds suggest the existence of the selective maturation mechanism in the fruit and seed production of V. unguiculata. Key words: Self pollination, Fruit and seed production, Floral biomass allocation, Reproductive characters, Flower and fruit abortions, Ovule position, Nonrandom seed maturation, Stress, Vigna unguiculata |
