Algal growth potential (AGP) bioassay were conducted to assess the water quality and fertility in the Naktong River. AGP values were always the highest at the conjuction site of the Kumho River, which is a tributary of the Naktong River. And average value of AGP by Selenastrum capricornutum and Microcystis aeruginosa were 112 mg dw/l, 366 mg dw/l respectively, AGP values decreased towards the lower part of the river and consist in water quality or nutrient analysis results. Among the tributaries, AGP of the Kumho River ranged from 148 mg dw/l to 849 mg dw/l and the highest among the tributaries. Hwang River was lowest to average below 10 mg dw/l. Water quality in the lower part of the Naktong River was more deteriorate in drought season and the AGP values of this season were higher than any other season. In addition, AGP are increased towards the depth in the lower part of the river and that was indirectly estimated to a sediment contain of much nutrients. From correlation between AGP results and nutrients, limiting nutrient shown to P because SRP nutrient $(r=0.75{sim}0.92)$ higher than other nutrients and N nutrient uptake on algal growth was preference $NH_4;than;NO_3$. The variations of AGP were different according to localities and seasons, those were higher in drought periods, therefore these periods were required to much important of water quality management.
