The effects of zinc and cadmium on ultrastructures of hepatocytes of Korean endemic freshwater fish, Acheilognathus yamatsutae, were studied by means of transmission electron microscopy. In the hepatocytes of fish exposed to zinc and cadmium, the nuclei were partially degenerated, the mitochondrial cristae considerably disintegrated, and some mitochondria vacuolated. The degree of hepatocyte damage by cadmium was higher than that by zinc. The hepatocytes of fish treated with mixture of zinc and cadmium were less deformed than that exposed to cadmium alone.
