| The ichthyofauna and the structure of fish community were surveyed from April 1995 to October 1997 at twenty six stations in the Miryang River, the first tributary located to the lower reach of the Nakdong River system. During the study period, 42 species belonging to thirteen families were collected. Cyprinid fish occupied 57.1% (24 species) and cobitid fish 14.3% (6 species). Eighteen species (42.9%) of observed species were known as endemic species. According to relative abundance in the whole river, Zacco temmincki (23.69%) was dominant species, and Zacco platypus (12.12%) was sub-dominant species. Moroco oxycephalus (8.35%), Niwaella multifasciata (7.97%), Pungtungia herzi (7.04%), Squalidus gracilis majimae (5.61%), and Acheilognathus koreensis (4.77%) was common species. Lampetra reissneri, Cyprinus carpio, Rhodeus ocellatus, Sarcocheilichthys variegatus wakiyae, Microphysogobio koreensis, Microphysogobio rapidus, Misgurnus mizolepis, Cobitis rotundicaudata, Plecoglossus altivelis, Macropodus chinensis, and Channa argus were rare species, which occupied less than 0.l% in relative abundance. It was revealed by the analysis of community structure that St. 24 was the most diverse among all study stations. Of the three large tributaries, Cheongdo stream had more diverse community structure than the other two streams. Based on cluster analysis using similarity index among stations, all the study stations were divided into three groups: upper, middle and lower reach group. |
