Seasonal and regional variations of primary productivity and photosynthetic parameters of phytoplankton were studied in four different stations of Pal'tang river-reservoir system in Korea during the period of April 1992 to May 1993. The range of Secchi-depth was from 0.8 m at Kyungan stream in October 1992 to 2.0 m at Pal'tang dam in April 1992. The range of chlorophyll a was from $1.7;mg/m^3$ at South Ban River in May 1993 to $32.8;mg/m^3$ at Pal'tang Dam in August 1992. Primary productivity per unit volume was the highest in August 1992 $(605{sim}672;mgC;m^{-3};hr^{-1})$ of all seasons studied. By regional comparison, Kyungan stream in October 1992 showed a higher primary productivity $(75{sim}111;mgC;m^{-3};hr^{-1})$ compared to other stations $(16{sim}68;mgC;m^{-3};hr^{-1})$. Daily primary productivity per unit area also revealed the highest value in August, 1992 $(8,195{sim}9,341;mgC;m^{-2};day^{-1})$, suggesting that the daily productivity is affected by light intensity, euphotic depth and temperature. However, no regional differences in daily primary productivity were found. Values of $P_{max};and;{alpha}$ were the highest at North Ran River and the lowest at Pal'tang Dam. Comparison of $P_{max};and;{alpha}$ showed the highest values in summer. $P_{max}$ was positively correlated with ${alpha}$, but not with $I_k$. The present data suggest that phytoplankton gain the ability to adapt to strong irradiation of summer (August) as indicated by the highest values of primary productivity and photosynthetic parameters.
