Horizental and vertical distributions of monthly water quality were investigated from February 1998 to January 1999 in the upstream of Lake Okjeong. Water quality parameters were measured at three major incoming tributaries. The results of this investigation showed that water quality of the Imshil stream was worse than other streams. Most of nutrients loading in lake occurred during the rainy season. T-N and T-P loadings were $8.9{ imes}10^4$ kg and $4.4{ imes}10^3$ kg for 3 days (11th to 13th August), respectively. The thermal stratification was presented from May to October. The metalimnetic oxygen minima occurred at 18 m depth in September. Storm runoff was fallen down with high turbidity and flowed into metalimnion along the 10 m depth layer of the same density. The turbidity was 5 to 25 NTU on 2 July. The trends of COD and T-N concentrations were seemed to increase, but SS, T-P and Secchi depth were become bettor or similar in 1998. Based on these results, the water quality of Lake Okjeong was evaluated to be similar to that of the past. Seasonal variations of $chi-{alpha}$ concentration and algal standing crops also provided its evidents. During the blooming season, blue-green algae (Microcystis, Oscillatoria) and green algae (Scenedesmus, Selenastrum) occured in high abandance and it estimated to be maximum average 30 mg $chl-{alpha}/m^3;or;2.3{ imes}10^5$ cells/ml. The population of Microcystis exponentially increased from June to September, and algal density was more than $10^5$ cells/ml. Though $chi-{alpha}$ and nutrients concentration varied with seasons, the trophic state of Lake Okjeong appeared to be in the range of mesoeutrophic status, being reflected by trophic state index (TSI : $30{sim}65$).
