Three-week old Commelina was transferred to and grown in Hoagland solution $(pm100mu{M};Cd^{2+},100mu{M};Cd^{2+}+100mu{M};Ca^{2+},;100mu{m};Cd^{2+}+200mu{M}$ EGTA) for two weeks and then the effect of $Ca^{2+}$ on the accumulation of $Cd^{2+}$ and growth of $Cd^{2+}$- treated Commelina was investigated. In the treatment of EGTA, $Cd^{2+}$ transport into the plant was not affected, but $Cd^{2+}$ - induced toxicity such as biomass and growth of Commelina. was reduced. In the treatment of $100mu{M};Cd^{2+}+100mu{M};Ca^{2+}$ transport was markedly affected by $Ca^{2+}$. The $Ca^{2+}$ also reduced about 37% and 48% of the concentration of $Cd^{2+}$ in root and stem for a week respectively. $Ca^{2+}$treatment also induced the change of the growth pattern of Commelina leading to inhibition of about 37%, 48% and 68% of the growth of stem and root and the fresh weight toy a week. When $Cd^{2+}$ was treated with $Ca^{2+}$for two weeks, the plant was dead, therefore the growth and ion contribution could not be measured. Therefore, it could be concluded that $Ca^{2+}$ did not reduce the toxicity of $Cd^{2+}$, but enhanced $Cd^{2+}$- induced toxicity and EGTA showed a decrease of $Cd^{2+}$- induced toxicity.
