뉴질랜드의 조경분야는 지난 40년간 국내외적으로 많은 변화를 겪어왔으며, 뉴질랜드조경학회는 뉴질랜드 조경의 역사를 정리함으로써 업계가 오랜 세월에 걸쳐 성장, 발전하면서 경험한 다양한 변화의 모습을 반추해볼 수 있는 기회를 제공하고자 한다. 이와 같은 취지에 부합하는
프로파일을 작성하기 위해 학회는 2012년 10월 회원들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시했는데, 여기에는 국제적인 설문 소프트웨어 개발업체 퀄트릭스(Qualtrics)가 제작한 웹 기반 시스템이 활용되었다. 설문조사는 링컨대학교 산하 인간윤리위원회(Human Ethics Committee)의 승인 과정을 거쳤으며, 이후 422명의 학회 정회원들에게 연구 참가요청서가 발송되었다. 이에 대해 과반 이상(53.6%)의 회원들이 요청서의 내용에 따라 설문지를 개봉했으나, 과반에 살짝 못 미치는(47.9%) 회원들만이 실제 설문에 응답해주었다.
이로써 조경학회가 뉴질랜드 내 조경업계의 현황을 파악해 프로파일을 작성하는 데 필요한 충분한 자료를 확보할 수 있게 되었다.

이 글을 통해 프로파일의 한 단면을 간략하게나마 엿볼 수 있는 기회를 제공하여 뉴질랜드 조경분야에서 3D 모델링 소프트웨어가 어떻게 이용되고 있는지 함께 살펴보고자 한다.

Introduction
The profession has undergone significant change over the last 40 years both internationally and locally and the NZILA is keen to establish a profile of landscape architecture in New Zealand, to enable them to track changes over time as the profession continues to develop and evolve. The Institute conducted an online survey of members in October 2012 to develop such a profile, using a web-based system developed by Qualtrics, an international survey software company. The survey was approved by the Human Ethics Committee of Lincoln University and an invitation to participate in the research was sent out to 422 eligible members of the NZILA. A majority of those (53.6%) followed the invitation to participate and opened the questionnaire but a slightly smaller number (47.9%) actually responded with answers; this was still sufficient for the Institute to establish a current profile of the profession of landscape architecture in New Zealand.

This article provides a glimpse into one aspect of that profile, looking at the use of 3D modelling software in landscape practice in New Zealand.
