미국조경가협회, 지지의 날 맞아 대변자들은 준비에 박차

오는 4월 30일에 있을 미국조경가협회(이하 ASLA) 지지자의 날을 맞아 ASLA 대변자들이 전국에서 워싱턴으로 집결할 예정이다. 대변자들은 연방 입법자들을 만나 조경업계에 중요한 정책이슈들을 논의하게 된다. 의회를 방문하는 동안 조경가들은 국회의원들에게 업계의 전망을 밝히고, 미국이 당면하고 있는 무수한 문제들에 대한 해결책을 조경가들이 준비하고 있음을 다양한 방식으로 알리기 위해 노력할 것이다.

올해 ASLA 대변자들은 건전하고 효율적인 계획과 지속가능한 수송 경로에 대한 조경가의 역할에 대해 논의할 예정이다. 국회가 도로교통에 관한 일괄법안과 기후변화 법안에 다시 권위를 부여하는 것을 고려하기 시작함에 따라, 국가 교통 체계를 재조정하는 것과 유해한 탄소를 저감하는 일에 조경가들의 능력과 기술이 필수적으로 필요하게 되었다.

ASLA는 오레건 지역 명예회원이자 국회위원 Earl Blumenauer는 4월 30일 목요일 오전에 있을 지지자의 날 입법 브리핑에서 참여자들에게 연설하게 되는 것을 알리게 되어 기쁘게 생각하고 있다. 하원의원 Blumenauer는 지속가능한 정책들을 시작하고 지지하는 리더일 뿐만 아니라, 조경분야에 중요한 정책들을 알리기 위해 성실하게 노력했기 때문에 ASLA의 명예회원이 된 바 있다. 하원의원 Blumenauer는 지지자의 날 참여자들과 함께 이러한 이슈들에 대한 그의 경험을 들려줄 것이며, 어떻게 1년 내내 효과적인 대변자로서 조경분야를 널리 알릴 것인지를 밝힐 것이다.

ASLA 대변자들은 각각 한 시간 동안 진행되는 두 번의 웹비나(webinar, 인터넷에 기반한 세미나) 훈련과정에 참여함으로써 입법자들과 진행되는 비판적인 토론을 준비하게 된다. 첫 웹비나는 4월 14일 화요일에 입법자들과의 협의를 위한 효과적인 수단, 비법, 그리고 전략을 주제로 열린다. 이 웹비나의 내용은 미국조경가협회 지지의 날(ASLA Advocacy Day) 웹사이트에서 회원들이 여가 시간에 확인할 수 있도록 공개되어 있다. 두 번째 웹비나는 4월 23일 목요일에 열리게 되며 ASLA 지지자들에 있어서 중요한 정책 문제에 관해 초점을 맞출 것이다.

Advocates Prepare for ASLA’s Annual Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. ASLA Government Affairs

During ASLA’s Annual Advocacy Day on April 30th, ASLA advocates will travel from across the country to Washington, D.C. to meet with their federal legislators to discuss policy issues important to the landscape architecture profession. During their congressional visits, landscape architects strive to raise the visibility of the profession with Members of Congress and to educate them on the many ways that landscape architects provide solutions to a myriad of problems facing our nation.

This year, ASLA advocates will discuss the role of landscape architects in planning sound, efficient, and sustainable transportation corridors. As Congress begins to consider reauthorizing an omnibus surface transportation bill and important climate change legislation, it is imperative that Congress utilize the skills and techniques of landscape architects in rebuilding our nation’s transportation system and to assist in reducing harmful carbon emissions.

ASLA is pleased to announce that Congressman Earl Blumenauer, Hon. ASLA from Oregon will address our Advocacy Day participants during the Advocacy Day legislative briefing on Thursday morning April 30th. Congressman Blumenauer is a leader in initiating and supporting sustainable policies and because of his diligent efforts in promoting polices important to the landscape architecture community was made an honorary member of ASLA. Congressman Blumenauer will share his experiences on working on these issues with Advocacy Day participants, as well as enlightening us on how to become effective advocates throughout the year.

ASLA advocates are preparing for their critical meetings with legislators by participating in two 1-hour webinar advocacy training sessions. The first webinar held on Tuesday, April 14th focused on advocacy tools, tips, and strategies for effective legislative meetings. This webinar is now posted on the ASLA Advocacy Day website for members to review at their leisure. The second webinar will be held on Thursday, April 23rd and will focus on the policy issues important to ASLA advocates.
