울산대공원이 세계적인 권위를 자랑하는 세계조경가협회 아태지역 총회 주최 공모전에서 조경계획 분야(landscape planning category) 최고상인 President Award(대상)에 선정되는 영예를 안았다.
울산시(시장 박맹우)는 지난 6월 1일부터 7월말까지 세계조경가협회 아시아태평양 총회 주최로 실시한 ‘제6회 조경 공모전(IFLA APR AWARD)’에서 울산대공원이 세계 각국에서 제출된 우수한 경쟁작품을 제치고 이 같은 성적을 거두었다고 밝혔다.
세계조경가협회 아시아태평양 총회 주최 공모전은 획기적인 디자인으로 환경과 사람에게 이익이 될 수 있는 조경 작품을 매년 선정, 시상하며 2009년에는 조경디자인, 조경계획, 토지관리 등 3개 부문에서 President's Award 3개 작품을 선정했다.
조경계획부문에서 President Award(대상)를 수상한 울산대공원은 'SK(주)의 기업이윤의 지역사회 환원', '자연의 소중한 경관자원을 그대로 살린 환경보전계획' 등에서 높은 평가를 받았다.
한편, 조경디자인 부문에서는 Beijing Olympic Forest Park(베이징 올림픽 산림공원)가, 토지관리 부분에서는 Applied Key Techniques in the Ecological Environment Construction in New Jiangwan Town(새로운 생태적 환경건설 공법이 적용된 상하이 지앙완 타운)이 선정되었다.
또한 삼성물산(주)은 조경계획부문 우수상에 '과천 래미안'이, 토지관리부분 우수상에 '래미안 관리시스템'이 각각 선정되면서 2관왕을 차지했다.
