Seafront of Benidorm

베니돔Benidorm은 대규모의 레저와 관광 산업으로 잘 알려진 스페인의 가장 전형적인 도시로서, 좁은 면적에 비해 최고의 밀집도를 가진 도시이다. 베니돔의 사례는 넓은 땅을 가졌지만 지가가 하락하고 일 년 중 9개월이나 비어 있어 유지가 거의 불가능한 다른 곳들에 비하면 비교적 효율적임을 알 수 있다.

1.5㎞에 이르는 ‘베니돔 서쪽 해안의 산책로 리모델링 공모전’에서 OAB는 지금까지 보아오던 산책로와는 다른 근본적으로 혁신적인 안을 제시하였다. 새롭게 조성된 산책로는 보호 경계 구역으로 가능할 뿐만 아니라, 번화가와 바다가 만나는 곳으로서 다양한 활동이 가능한 공공공간이 되었다.

자체적으로 생명력을 가지고 있는 산책로는 자연 파형을 연상시키는 유기적인 라인을 가지며, 이는 빛과 그림자를 유영하는 듯한 벌집모양의 바닥패턴과 조화를 이룬다. 또한 연속된 볼록함과 오목함은 점진적으로 일련의 플랫폼과 층을 만들어 놀이, 만남, 레저 또는 사색을 위한 공간들을 제공해 주고 있다.

Benidorm is perhaps the single most paradigmatic Spanish city of the massive industry of leisure and tourism, a city of an extremely high density concentrated in a tiny territory. This model has shown itself to be more efficient than others that position the deterioration of huge tracts of land, towns that are empty for nine months of the year, almost impossible to maintain.

In the competition for the remodeling of the 1.5-kilometer-long West Beach Promenade, we proposed a radical innovation in terms of what different promenades the world over have hitherto been. Not only a borderline of protection, a hinge between town and sea, the construction will be a public place that is conducive to many different activities.

The promenade, a place with a life of its own, has organic lines, a reminder of natural wave forms that generate an ensemble of honeycombed surfaces that juggle light and shadow, a series of convexities and concavities that gradually construct a set of platforms and levels that provide areas for play, meeting, leisure or contemplation.
