제46회 IFLA 세계대회가 브라질의 Rio de Janero에서 10월 21일(수) 개최되었다. 이번 세계대회는 브라질조경가협회(ABAP)가 주최로 하며, 오는 23일(금)까지 개최된다.

제46회 IFLA 세계대회의 주제는 "그린인프라스트럭처 : High Performance Landscape(높은 성과를 올린 조경)"로 세계 각국의 대표들이 모여 토론과 주제발표를 펼친다.

주요 행사 중 하나인 세계전문가모임에서는 Rio de Janeiro의 공원들을 답사하게 된다. Jardim Botânico(포르투갈의 식물원), Floresta da Tijuca(Tijuca Forest, 열대 다우림 산악지대), Sítio Burle Marx, Aterro do Flamengo, Parque Península 등의 천혜 자연 및 공공공간을 답사함으로 인해 브라질의 경관 및 거대한 종 다양성을 경험할 수 있다.
모든 답사지의 경우 관련 장소의 전문지식가가 함께 대동되어 세계 각국의 조경가에게 가이드 된다.

매회 개최되었던 국제 학생디자인 공모전과 관련 행사 및 워크샵도 함께 열린다.

IFLA Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Gold Medal의 주인공 정해진다
그동안 많은 관심을 모았던 IFLA Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Gold Medal의 두 번째 주인공이 이번 46회 IFLA 세계대회에서 결정된다. IFLA는 지난 2008년 5월 2일까지 후보자 추천을 받은바 있으며, 2005년 제1회 제프리 젤리코 금메달은 조경가 피터워커가 최초 수상자로 선정되기도 했다. IFLA가 주최하는 IFLA Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Gold Medal은 매 4년마다 선정되며, 전 세계적으로 공적이나 공훈, 재능 및 영향력이 인정된 사람에게 수여된다.

Brazil hosts IFLA 46th World Congress

The Brazilian Association of Landscape Architects (ABAP) will host the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) 46th World Congress. This major world-wide congress on landscape architecture will be held in Rio de Janeiro on October 21-23, 2009. Green Infrastructure: High Performance Landscapes is the theme that will drive the debates and presentations by representatives from all over the world.

The major world-wide meeting of professionals will also include technical visits to different parks of Rio de Janeiro, offering a visual exuberance and a vast diversity of Brazilian species, such as the Jardim Botânico, Floresta da Tijuca, Sítio Burle Marx, Parque Península and Aterro do Flamengo among others. Visits will be guided by landscape architects with expert knowledge of every site.

Another milestone of the 46th IFLA World Congress will be, as every year, the International Student Design Competition, during which, a series of activities and workshops will take place.

Finally, the 46th IFLA World Congress will be the venue for the second IFLA Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Gold Medal award-giving. This Gold Medal awarded every four years by the International Federation of Landscape Architects pays tribute to a practicing landscape architect whose merit, talent and actions are acknowledged at international level.
