Sudliche Lohmuhleninsel

Sudliche Lohmuhleninsel은 베를린Berlin 의 프리드리히스하인-크러이츠벡Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg에 위치한 섬으로, 길이 600미터, 폭 100미터이고, 운하와 댐 건설 붐이 일었던 1845년에서 1850년 사이에 만들어졌다. 무두질하는 노동자들이 나무 껍질을 첨가하여 가죽 제조 기술을 향상시켰는데, 이 섬 이름의 기원이 여기서 나온 것이다.
섬은 운하 옆에 있으며 동 베를린과 서 베를린의 경계에 있다. 독일이 분단되어 있을 때에는 국경의 일부분이기도 했었다. 독일이 통일된 후 기존 국경 지역은 공원으로 조성되었고, 그로 인해 녹지가 부족했던 크러이츠벡의 조경이 향상되었다.
Sudliche Lohmuhleninsel의 공공 녹지대 재건은 2007년부터 2008년 사이에 완료되었으며, 남녀노소 모두를 위한 쉼터와 운동장으로서 역할을 수행해 왔다. 새로 지은 대형 운동장과 스포츠 도로는 기존의 섬 계획을 더욱 완벽하게 만들어 주었다.

Project Background
SÜDLICHE LOHMÜHLENINSEL is located in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Berlin. The island is 600 meter long, 100 meter wide, and was sprung up with the booming of state canal and dam during 1845 and 1850. Tan workers improved manufacturing of leathers by using barks (tanning materials) as addictive, and SÜDLICHE LOHMÜHLENINSEL got its name from this. The island is next to a canal, which makes it part of the boarder between East and West Berlin; it is also part of the inner boarder of the sate when the country was split. After Germany was reunited, former boarder was reformed into a park, which improved the landscape quality of Kreuzberg for its lack of greening area.
Most reconstruction of public greening area on SÜDLICHE LOHMÜHLENINSEL was finished between 2007 and 2008, which provided a good place of exercises and rest for people at different ages. The large newly-built stadium and sports strip have perfected and made up for the existing island planning.
