Missouri Korean War Veterans Memorial

2011년 9월 미주리주 캔자스 시티(Kansas City, Missouri)에 위치한 워싱턴 스퀘어 파크(Washington Square Park)에서 치러진 헌정 행사를 통해 미주리 한국전 참전용사 메모리얼(Missouri Korean War Veterans Memorial)이 일반에 공개되었다. 애초 틸트업 콘크리트 협회(Tilt-up Concrete Association, TCA)의 연례 컨벤션 행사의 일환으로 틸트업 콘크리트 건축물의 장점을 보여주기 위해 기획된 본 프로젝트가 그 이상의 의미를 띠게 된 것은 매우 갑작스런 일이었다. 이 프로젝트는 틸트업 건축물의 유연성, 응용성, 그리고 아름다움을 동시에 드러낼 뿐만 아니라, TCA 회원들의 관대함, 자부심 등을 보여주고 있다. 더욱 중요한 사실은 프로젝트를 통해 한국전쟁 참전용사들의 자랑스러운 전통을 계승하는 한편, 대한민국을 수호하기 위해 커다란 희생을 치르고 자신들의 목숨을 바친 이들을 기리고 있다는 점이다.

In September of 2011, the Missouri Korean War Veterans Memorial was dedicated at a ceremony in Washington Square Park in Kansas City, Missouri. The project, which started as an effort to demonstrate the benefits of Tilt-Up concrete construction as part of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association’s(TCA’s) annual convention, quickly turned in to something so much more. Not only is the project a testament to the versatility, applicability and beauty of Tilt-Up construction, it is a demonstration of the generosity, pride and good will of TCA members. Most importantly, it continues the legacy of Korean War Veterans and recognizes those who paid the supreme sacrice and gave their lives in defense of South Korea.
